How to Utilize Videos on Social Media

By |September 5th, 2023|

The human brain processes visuals 60,000 times faster than text, making video marketing a powerful way to improve engagement with followers. Increasing engagement will increase brand awareness and keep you front of mind with consumers.

Here are three social media platforms in which a creative video marketing strategy will help build your online presence.

  1. Instagram Reels.

Reels are the newest form of video for Instagram and Facebook. A reel is a great way to create short entertaining videos that can show off your branding, services, mission, and more. As you develop your content strategy, keep in mind what your main objective is with your Instagram page. Are you looking to highlight different uses for your product? Create a funny, entertaining clip that will be likely to be shared by viewers? Or provide important information that your audience will find helpful? By focusing on the end goal, you can craft reels that fit with your overall branding.

When recording a reel you have two options, create a reel on the app or upload a video that was previously edited. When recording on the app you can record up to 90 seconds vertically with a 9:16 aspect ratio. If you upload a video, you can post up to 15 minutes in length. Uploaded videos can be either vertical or horizontal.

If you are worried about your editing skills and creativity, don’t be! Reels offers editing help with templates. Simply pick out a template and select pictures/ videos from your camera roll to insert into the template. Reels will automatically put the video together for you with the sound you choose to add. This makes it a very cost-efficient way to incorporate videos into your marketing plan.

2. TikTok.

Unlike Reels, TikTok is its very own platform filled with only videos. TikTok is a video sharing app that allows users to create and share short-form videos on any topic. With its personalized feeds of quirky, short videos set to music and sounds, TikTok is notable for its addictive quality and high levels of engagement.

When making a TikTok you can create one in the app from 2 seconds up to 10 minutes or upload a video up to the same length. TikTok also films vertically with a 9:16 aspect ratio but allows horizontal videos to be uploaded as well.

Editing is incredibly easy on TikTok. When you select clips/pictures from your camera roll and click “Autoclip”, TikTok makes an edited video with effects and music for you. You can also add text to give your TikTok something extra.

3. YouTube.

YouTube is the older form of video making. YouTube is almost like a mash up of TikTok and Reels. On YouTube you can upload edited or non-edited videos up to 10 hours in length! This makes YouTube a great hub for informational videos. Unlike the other two types of videos, YouTube videos are horizontal with an aspect ratio of 16:9.

YouTube has also recently come out with “YouTube Shorts”. These are short videos that you would see on a platform such as TikTok or Reels in a vertical position. Unfortunately, YouTube doesn’t edit videos for you. This means everything you post to YouTube has a better chance at being seen if its edited professionally.

Video is king on social media! It captures our attention and engages the user in a way that will build brand loyalty and awareness. If you haven’t made the decision to get started with video, start today, and see just how much more engagement your company can get!
