Should your company invest time and resources in a publicity campaign this year? We often find that our clients are interested in expanding their publicity efforts, but at a bit of a loss for how to do so. Of course, they can send out a press release when the organization purchases new equipment, offers a new route, or brings new technology to market. And we absolutely advise that that your team should be!
However, these standard press releases are not the only way to leverage PR to drive your business.
A great publicity campaign thinks outside the box. In the transportation industry, whether you work for the public transit group in your city or a privately run bus company, it can be difficult to find unique ways to engage with the community to help raise awareness for the services your organization provides. However, it is absolutely worth the time and effort to do so.
This summer Franklin Transit had a “Free Teens Try Transit Day” for the locals in Franklin, TN. This event invited local tweens and teens to take a free bus ride to explore many of the city’s favorite destinations. The transit group had partnered with local businesses to offer the teens participating various featured items for free along the way. For example, the teens received complimentary treats from Kilwins Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop as well as a free ride on the carousel at The Factory in Franklin.
The event was an incredible success, with a reported 450 students participating. Many of these riders had never taken one of the Franklin Transit buses before, and after participating in the day, a whole new group of riders has seen just how easy it is to utilize the routes. Not only did the day bring quite a bit of public awareness for the Franklin Transit system, the businesses that participated in the event were also able to use the day to engage customers. This event provided the participating businesses with content to use for their social media feeds, blog, and press coverage by the local news.
